Driver Stops Without Hesitation to Save a Duck From a Relentless Predator 🦆❤️

A Fierce Struggle on the Roadway

A brown mink clamped its teeth onto a mallard duck’s neck on the gravel road.

The duck thrashed its wings, kicking up dust and loose dirt as it fought to break free from the predator’s grip.

A group of five small ducklings huddled just inches away on the grassy shoulder, chirping loudly.

A silver sedan approached slowly along the narrow dirt road next to the lake.

The driver of the sedan steered around the struggling animals and continued driving down the road.

The mink rolled over, keeping its jaws locked tightly onto the duck’s neck while the duck’s wings beat uselessly against the ground.

The ducklings moved back and forth, unsure of where to go as the fight spilled across the dirt lane.

An Unexpected Intervention

A black SUV drove up from the opposite direction and stopped a few feet away from the commotion.

The engine idled as the driver’s side door opened, and a man wearing a grey polo shirt and blue jeans stepped out.

He carried a bright orange pressurized spray bottle in his right hand as he walked toward the gravel shoulder.

The mink did not loosen its bite, even as the man’s shadow fell directly over the two struggling animals.

The man pumped the top of the canister several times to build up pressure inside the tank.

He pointed the black wand nozzle directly at the spot where the mink’s teeth met the duck’s neck.

A stream of thick, white soapy foam shot out of the nozzle, completely covering the two animals in a white pile.

The ducklings scattered toward the grass as the foam expanded over the road surface.

The slippery, wet soapy mixture coated the mink’s face, forcing it to release its grip and run off into the green brush by the lake.

Tending to the Wounded

The duck lay still in the white foam, its neck feathers wet and matted from the struggle.

The man knelt down on the gravel road, placing his left hand gently on the duck’s back to keep it calm.

He used his right hand to carefully wipe away the soapy foam from the duck’s eyes, nostrils, and yellow bill.

The ducklings slowly crept back toward the mother duck, watching the man’s movements from a safe distance.

The man pulled a roll of thick white medical tape from his pocket to treat the neck wound.

He held the duck’s head steady with one hand while using the other to tear off a piece of tape.

He carefully wrapped the white tape around the duck’s neck, covering the bite marks left by the mink.

He pressed the edges of the tape flat against the wet feathers to ensure it would stay in place.

The duck remained completely still during the process, resting its body on the gravel road.

Return to the Water

The man slid both of his hands underneath the duck’s body, lifting the bird off the gravel road.

He walked slowly down the grassy bank toward the edge of the lake, carrying the duck securely in front of him.

Another adult duck floated a few yards from the shore, watching the man approach the water.

The man bent his knees and lowered the duck down to the water’s edge, letting its webbed feet touch the surface.

The duck immediately began paddling, moving away from the shoreline and toward the open water.

The duck paddled forward, its wings flapping against the surface, before settling into a steady swim beside its partner on the open lake
