A Sudden Splash On The Sidewalk
A plastic cup tipped forward, sending a stream of bright yellow liquid over the man’s knitted cap.
The fluid ran down the side of his face, soaking into his gray beard and dripping onto his collar.
He sat against the cold brick wall, pulling his chin down to protect his eyes from the sticky wetness.
Beside him, a yellow Labrador dog watched the woman holding the empty cup as she stepped back, her mouth open in a wide grin.
The man rested his forehead in his gloved hand, his shoulders shaking as the liquid began to dry on his brown jacket.
On the cardboard sign next to his worn boots, the handwritten words read “Homeless & Hungry.”
The woman continued to laugh, her eyes wide as she pointed at the dripping mess on his clothes.
The Dog Comforts His Owner
The Labrador pressed its head against the man’s knee, letting out a soft, low whine.
The dog gently licked the sticky yellow juice from the man’s cheek, trying to clean the mess.
The man wrapped one arm around the dog’s neck, squeezing the animal close to his chest while wiping his eyes with his sleeve.
A few yards away, the woman pointed her finger at the pair, laughing loudly so that people on the street turned to look.
She tossed the empty cup onto the pavement and turned around, walking down the busy London street with a bounce in her step.
The dog temporarily pulled away from its owner, its ears perked as it watched the woman walk away.
It trotted quietly behind her, weaving through the pedestrians on the sidewalk.
An Unexpected Turn Of Events
The woman stopped at a long concrete bench further down the block and sat down, pulling her phone from her pocket.
She held the device to her ear, smiling and chatting animatedly with whoever was on the other end of the line.
The yellow Labrador approached the bench quietly from behind, its eyes locked on her blue denim jacket.
The dog sniffed the edge of the stone structure, moving closer to her back as she remained distracted.
She gestured with her free hand, completely unaware of the animal standing right behind her.
The dog took one final step forward and lifted its hind leg, aiming at the center of her back.
Justice Served On The Street
A warm stream splashed directly onto the back of her denim jacket, quickly soaking through the blue fabric.
The woman gasped, her eyes widening in disbelief as she felt the sudden wetness on her shoulder.
She jumped up from the bench, dropping her phone onto the stone as she spun around to see what had happened.
She reached back with one hand, touching her wet jacket and staring at her damp fingers with a look of horror.
The dog stood on top of the bench, looking down at her with its tongue hanging out of its mouth.
She waved her arms frantically, shouting and trying to push the dog away as she realized what had occurred.
The Labrador hopped down from the bench, turned around, and trotted back down the sidewalk toward the brick wall.
