Six Years After the Finale, the Modern Family Cast Reunites for a Special Dinner

Six years after the beloved sitcom Modern Family came to an end, several members of the Pritchett-Dunphy family reunited for a dinner that quickly brought back memories of the hit series.

On August 31, 2026, Sofía Vergara shared photos from a dinner featuring Ed O’Neill, Julie Bowen and Jesse Tyler Ferguson. Modern Family co-creator Christopher Lloyd also appeared in one of the photos.

Vergara captioned the photos, “With my American family!!”, while reflecting on how quickly the years have passed since the show’s finale.

“I can’t believe it’s been 6 yrs since the Modern Family finale!!! I miss u guys!!!”

The reunion also included a fun reference to the sitcom’s early days. According to TV Insider, Vergara added the song “In the Moonlight (Do Me)”, famously associated with Dylan, Haley’s boyfriend played by Reid Ewing, from the show’s first season.

“I Love These People”

Jesse Tyler Ferguson shared the reunion photos as well, keeping his message simple and heartfelt:

“I love these people.”

Julie Bowen also posted a photo from the gathering and jokingly referred to Ed O’Neill as her “fake dad.” She added that her real father was not present at the dinner.

The gathering was particularly notable because Ed O’Neill has rarely appeared in recent cast reunions. Since Modern Family ended, he has taken on relatively few acting projects, with one of his more recent appearances being in All’s Fair in 2025.

Not Everyone Was Able to Attend

While several familiar faces were present, some major members of the Modern Family cast were missing from the dinner.

Ty Burrell and Eric Stonestreet were among those who did not attend, while several of the show’s younger stars were also absent.

Burrell previously explained that reunions had become more difficult after his move to Utah.

Despite the changes over the years, the cast has continued to maintain a connection. In 2024, the six adult stars reunited at the SAG Awards to present the award for comedy ensemble, a category Modern Family won four times.

For fans, the latest dinner was another reminder that the friendships created during the show’s 11-season run have continued long after the final episode aired.
