A 13-year-old girl rescued a drowning dog from a river—or rather, she thought she was rescuing an ordinary dog. But just a few hours after the rescue, something happened that left the girl absolutely terrified
That day, the 13-year-old girl was walking with her friends near a river not far from her home. They often came there after school because there was a small forest nearby, an old wooden bridge, and plenty of places where they could sit by the water.
At one point, the girl suddenly noticed something gray in the middle of the river.
At first, she thought it was a large piece of wood being carried away by the current. But a few seconds later, the gray figure turned slightly, and the girl saw the head of an animal.
“There’s a dog!” she shouted to her friends.

The animal was quite far from the shore. Practically only its head was visible above the water. The huge gray dog’s eyes were closed, its wet fur was stuck to its face, and it was barely moving.
It was obvious that the animal was completely exhausted.
Sometimes its head disappeared beneath the water and then surfaced again. Each time, the dog struggled more and more to stay afloat. The girl immediately realized there was no time to wait.
She ran to the very edge of the riverbank but was afraid to enter the water. It was quite deep there, and the current became much stronger toward the middle of the river.
Then the girl began looking for something long and spotted a large dry branch under a tree.
She grabbed it with both hands, lay almost flat on her stomach on the grass, and stretched the branch as far as she could over the water.
“Come on, grab it!” she shouted to the dog.
But the animal didn’t react. Its eyes remained closed. The girl gently touched its muzzle several times with the branch. Finally, the animal regained a little strength and tried to grab onto the branch with its front paws.
The girl pulled.
She immediately realized just how heavy the dog was. The branch kept slipping from the animal’s wet paws, the current was pulling it back, and the girl was using all her strength to keep hold of the branch.
Her friends grabbed her by the clothes to make sure she didn’t accidentally fall into the water herself.
Several times, it seemed like they weren’t going to make it. But little by little, the animal came closer to the shore.
When there was only a short distance left to dry land, one of her friends found another branch, and together they managed to pull the dog into the shallow water.
The girl grabbed its wet fur near its neck, her friends helped her, and finally the enormous animal was lying on the grass.
For several seconds, everyone simply stared at it.
The dog was much bigger than they had initially thought. Its thick fur was gray with dark patches, its paws seemed unusually large, and its muzzle was long and somehow strange.
The girl decided that it was simply a very large stray dog.
She didn’t want to leave it by the river.
Not far from the girl’s house was an old barn where her family stored hay and various tools. With enormous difficulty, she and her friends carried the animal there and laid it down on the dry hay.
The dog was still barely moving. The girl covered it with an old blanket and ran home to get some water and food.
A few minutes later, she returned alone. In one hand, she was carrying a bowl of water, and in the other, several pieces of meat.
The girl approached the barn and opened the door. She immediately froze. The animal was no longer lying down. It was standing in the middle of the barn.
Its wet fur had dried slightly and now stood out around its enormous body. Its head was lowered, and two bright yellow eyes stared directly at the girl.
For the first time, she saw the animal standing at its full height, and a cold shiver ran down her spine.
It looked nothing like a domestic dog. The animal slowly took a step forward. The girl stepped back. And at that very moment, something terrible happened—something the girl could never have imagined. You can find the rest of the story in the first comment
At that exact moment, she heard her father shout from behind her.
He had seen the animal through the open door and immediately ordered his daughter not to move.
“That’s not a dog.”

At first, the girl didn’t even understand what he meant. Her father slowly approached and stepped in front of his daughter to protect her. Standing before them was a fully grown gray wolf.
It turned out that the current had carried it from the forested part of the river. The wolf had probably tried to cross to the other side but had been caught in a powerful current, struck some rocks, and nearly drowned.
Without even realizing it, the girl had pulled a wild predator out of the water and then, together with her friends, brought it directly to her home.
But the strangest thing happened next. The wolf didn’t attack.
It looked at the father, then back at the girl, and slowly approached the bowl she had placed on the ground in fear. The animal drank all the water, ate the meat, and looked at the girl again.
Her father called wildlife specialists, but while they were waiting for them to arrive, the wolf suddenly walked out of the barn.
Everyone was afraid to approach it. The wolf walked to the edge of the yard, stopped, and turned its head toward the girl for a few seconds.
Then it calmly disappeared into the forest.
