Sandra Bullock\u2019s longtime partner Bryan Randall passed away after a three-year battle with ALS in 2023. Now, for the first time, the Academy Award-winning actress has spoken out about the traumatic loss.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Sandra Bullock and Bryan Randall met in 2015. The couple made their relationship public later that same year when they appeared at Justin Theroux and Jennifer Aniston\u2019s wedding, and for years they stayed together.<\/p>\n

However, everything changed as Randall received an ALS diagnosis. In August 2023, his family shared the devastating news that the photographer had died \u201cpeacefully after a three-year battle with ALS..<\/p>\n

\u201cBryan chose early to keep his journey with ALS private and those of us who cared for him did our best to honor his request.\u201d<\/p>\n

His family also expressed gratitude to the medical teams and caregivers who supported him throughout his illness.<\/p>\n

At the time, Sandra Bullock decided to stay quiet.\u00a0People Magazine\u00a0reported at the time that \u201cshe needed time to care for herself.<\/p>\n

Sandra Bullock breaks silence on \u2018traumatic\u2019 loss of partner Bryan Randall<\/h2>\n

\u201cShe spent a lot of time healing, being with her kids and being at home,\u201d the source added. \u201cShe needed to ensure that she and her kids were in the best possible place for her to go back to work.\u201d<\/p>\n

Now, Sandra Bullock has decided to speak out about the devastating event of losing her beloved Bryan. While appearing on the\u00a0SmartLess\u00a0podcast<\/em>\u00a0with hosts Jason Bateman, Will Arnett, and Sean Hayes, the actress opened up about the extreme emotional toll of caring for Randal while keeping his condition out of the public eye.<\/p>\n

Bullock\u00a0revealed that Randall decided to keep the ALS diagnosis private.e<\/p>\n

\u201cHe asked me not to share. I know why he asked me not to,\u201d Bullock said on the\u00a0SmarLess Podcast<\/em>. \u201cI wasn\u2019t allowed to speak about it. That was the request. I wasn\u2019t even allowed to tell Amanda [Anka, Bateman\u2019s wife]. I wasn\u2019t allowed to tell anybody. My sister was the only one who knew for a while.\u201d<\/p>\n

While the actress initially felt prepared to stay quiet, she explained that it led her to isolate herself, not least because of the COVID-19 pandemic.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t wanna harm others because of what I do, so I think not talking for a while was good,\u201d she continued, adding that managing the pandemic, the illness, and at the same time being a mother to her children was \u201ca trifecta that was pretty dark.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI started grieving Bryan four years before he passed\u201d<\/h2>\n

Sandra Bullock branded ALS \u201cthe process of elimination over the course of a year. And somewhere you keep going back, and they give you all these milestones, these things to do, these grips, these breath tests, all these things.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cYou have to quietly plan. And I\u2019m a very good planner with illness,\u201d she said, adding that her father had \u201caccidents\u201d and her mother had cancer. \u201cIt doesn\u2019t scare me \u2014 not the illness itself, it doesn\u2019t scare me. I can see and be around just about anything. But I had two young kids that were navigating it, especially a little girl who saw [Randall] as a father figure.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI think where he was in his journey, both physically and mentally, I started grieving Bryan four years before he passed. There was something that had shifted,\u201d she revealed. \u201cMy person left a lot earlier than the body left. I don\u2019t think I ever dealt with that until after he passed, because you\u2019re just on this treadmill.\u201d<\/p>\n

Sandra Bullock wasn\u2019t alone during the very challenging time of caring for Bryan Randall. Also, on the podcast, she reflected on how her children, daughter Laila, and son Louis, coped.<\/p>\n

She explained that her son recognized early on how the household dynamics had changed and decided to take a step back.<\/p>\n

\u201cI didn\u2019t want him to become the man of the family at that age,\u201d Bullock said on the\u00a0Smartless Podcast<\/em>. \u201cMy job is to be both at that time. And I want him to be a kid during a pandemic when everything is already f\u2013ked anyway and people are suffering everywhere.\u201d<\/p>\n
