He walked with a heavy gait, his boots crunching on the gravel at the edge of the road. As he approached, the three chicks shifted slightly but didn\u2019t scatter. They stayed close to the bird on the ground, their small beaks closed and their bodies huddled together. The man knelt on the rough surface, placing the water bottles beside him and looking closely at the bird\u2019s chest for any sign of movement.<\/p>\n
He unscrewed the cap of the first bottle and tilted it slowly. A thin stream of clear water hit the bird\u2019s bright orange chest, soaking into the feathers and darkening them instantly. The water pooled on the hot road, spreading out in a dark circle around the bird\u2019s head. He moved the bottle back and forth, ensuring the water reached the bird\u2019s beak and neck, but there was no immediate reaction. The bird stayed limp, its legs tucked tight against its body.<\/p>\n
The man didn\u2019t stop. He opened the second bottle and continued the process, soaking the bird\u2019s entire underside. He reached out with his thumb and gently stroked the bird\u2019s head, pushing a few wet feathers away from its eyes. Then, the bird\u2019s wings gave a sudden, sharp twitch. The man adjusted his grip, keeping the bird upright as its head began to lift. Its eyes opened wider, and it let out a soft, wet chirp. The bird started to kick its legs against the bottom of the plastic tub, its strength returning with every second of immersion. The man reached into his pocket and pulled out a handful of birdseed and dried mealworms. He scattered them in a wide circle on the ground near the edge of the grass. The robin, now fully alert and standing tall, hopped over to the pile and began to peck at the food. The three chicks followed suit, crowding around their mother and joining in the meal. The man stayed on one knee, watching them eat for a moment before standing up and heading back to his car.
