A passenger thrust her arm out of the car window, laughing out loud as she dropped a brown paper bag and a plastic cup directly onto the parking lot.<\/p>\n
The trash landed right at the feet of an elderly worker wearing a neon orange safety vest, work gloves, and holding a straw broom. The older woman paused mid-sweep, lowering her dustpan as the crumpled trash settled on the ground.<\/p>\n
Inside the silver vehicle, the passenger adjusted her white skirt and prepared to step out into the bright afternoon sun.<\/p>\n
A man dressed in a dark suit walked around to the passenger side, opening the car door with an outstretched hand.<\/p>\n
He greeted the woman with a slight nod, guiding her onto the pavement. He pulled a dark blindfold from his pocket and carefully tied the fabric over her eyes, smoothing her hair beneath the knot.<\/p>\n
The woman stood still, smiling in anticipation as she waited for what she assumed was a romantic gesture. The man turned back toward the rear seat of the car and lifted a large bundle of fresh pink roses wrapped in plastic.<\/p>\n
Instead of turning toward his date, the man walked over to the elderly cleaner standing beside her broom.<\/p>\n
He placed the pink roses into the older woman\u2019s gloved hands. The worker looked down at the blossoms, her face breaking into a wide smile as she pulled the bouquet close to her chest.<\/p>\n
The man offered a brief nod before stepping back toward the pavement where the discarded food container and red drink still sat. He crouched down, gathering the wet napkins, sticky red liquid, and crushed cup with both hands.<\/p>\n
Walking over to his blindfolded date, the man signaled for her to hold out both palms.<\/p>\n
He emptied the crushed paper, melting ice, and red slush directly into her cupped fingers. The cold liquid immediately seeped between her fingers, staining her hands and dripping toward her white shoes.<\/p>\n
She gasped, instantly yanking the blindfold off her face with one sticky hand. Her eyes widened as she stared down at the mess she had thrown from the car window only moments earlier.<\/p>\n
The man in the suit turned and walked back across the parking lot, leaving the young woman standing frozen while the sanitation worker clutched her pink roses with a wide grin.
