Matthew McConaughey<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0Woody Harrelson\u00a0<\/strong>have made a whole show out of the rumor\u00a0they\u00a0<\/em>started about possibly being related.<\/p>\n

Well, technically\u00a0Kay McConaughey\u00a0<\/strong>started it when she told her son and his longtime pal that she “knew<\/em>” Harrelson’s dad.<\/p>\n

“Everyone was aware of the ellipses that my mom left after ‘knew,'” McConaughey shared on\u00a0Kelly Ripa<\/strong>‘s\u00a0Let’s Talk Off Camera\u00a0<\/em>podcast\u00a0in 2023. “It was a loaded K-N-E-W.”<\/p>\n

The actors have really leaned into the bit with their new are-they-or-aren’t-they Apple TV comedy\u00a0Brothers<\/em>, in which they portray extra versions of themselves. And they continue to play coy, McConaughey\u00a0telling E! News\u00a0he’ll “probably end up” taking a DNA test one of these days.<\/p>\n

But regardless of what those results show, their fraternal bond will remain strong, primarily the part where they mercilessly tease each other.<\/p>\n

Because while McConaughey said his mother was “goading” Harrelson with her insinuation that she\u00a0knew\u00a0<\/em>the\u00a0Cheers<\/em>\u00a0alum’s father during the second of her two divorces from\u00a0James McConaughey<\/strong>\u00a0(before she married him for the third time), Harrelson thinks his pal is in denial.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe doesn’t want to believe,” Harrelson said. “You got to do the whole sentence, \u2018I don’t want to believe it’s\u00a0true<\/em>.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/section>\n

In the meantime, Hollywood is already chockablock with siblings, many of whom are easily identifiable\u2014Baldwins, Fannings, Gyllenhaals, Hemsworths, Olsens, Wilsons\u2014while others have chosen to operate under different names.<\/p>\n

“We’re very close,”\u00a0Shirley MacLaine<\/strong>, who was born\u00a0Shirley Beaty<\/strong>, wrote of her relationship with younger brother\u00a0Warren Beatty<\/strong>\u00a0in her 2024 book\u00a0The Wall of Life: Pictures and Stories from This Marvelous Lifetime<\/em>. “We don’t let that be known, but we’re very close.” (Incidentally, the\u00a0internet has started noticing\u00a0how much Beatty and\u00a0Annette Bening<\/strong>‘s daughter\u00a0Ella Beatty\u00a0<\/strong>resembles her aunt.)<\/p>\n

Also hiding in plain sight for decades are\u00a0Emilio Estevez<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0Charlie Sheen<\/strong>, the former of which started auditioning as Emilio Sheen before going back to his born surname, while the latter adopted their father\u00a0Martin Sheen<\/strong>‘s chosen stage name.<\/p>\n

“It was a much smoother father-son, Estevez-to-Sheen morph than the one Dad had suffered with his old man,” Charlie wrote in his 2025 memoir\u00a0The Book of Sheen\u00a0<\/em>of the\u00a0West Wing\u00a0<\/em>alum, born\u00a0Ramon Estevez<\/strong>. “I told him how important it was to honor him by carrying the name forward.”<\/p>\n

Then there’s the endless supply of sons and daughters operating under different last names than their famous parents. And if you start counting cousins, then showbiz is practically one big family tree. Plus, don’t even get us started on who’s related by marriage.<\/p>\n

And that family connection led to Nancy playing a pivotal role in Sabrina’s success.<\/p>\n
